What’s In A Name?

Day Two of the Zero To Hero Challenge was to update/explain/tweak our blog names and tags. My blog name, “Pencils, Paint & Paper” is pretty clear I think. They are my toys essentially.

Now the name Bloomtown Studio, messes with folks. That’s what I get questions about all the time. Even though I think I have explained it in the past I will do so again.

Bloomtown Road is where I grew up. When I lived there it didn’t have an actual road sign, but everyone in the community knew the name. I have no idea where the name comes from, but now that I think about it, I should find out. If anyone knows, please give us the history. My sister and brother-in-law’s farm, Bloomtown Acres, is there now. Back in the dark ages before the internet, video games and cable TV a kid had to generate some creativity to avoid extreme boredom. One of my favorite places to hide out and have my own little world was under a large weeping cherry tree. The branches made a nice curtained, shaded room.

When I needed a business name I wanted to have something with significance without really being tied down to a place or thing because I wanted some flexibility. I decided to use Bloomtown because that was were it all started for me, but it didn’t really have a geographical recognition and it was sort of quirky. Darn good thing I did that too. Little did I know that I would sprout another business out of it just a few short years later.

Yes, people think it may have something to do with flowers (I do really like drawing them) or they pronounce it BOOMTOWN, but that’s ok. Hopefully they can remember it enough to find this site out in cyberspace.
